An adrenalin-charged action thriller, "The Condemned" tells the story of Joe Conrad (Stone Cold Steve Austin), who is awaiting the death penalty in a corrupt Central American prison. Der Typ scheint aber auch gar kein Freund dieser Art von Film zu sein. Und von den technischen Unzulänglichkeiten muss ich mich selbst überzeugen, A BETTER WAY TO DIE war ja immerhin ziemlich solide gemacht.

Wrestling Star Predicts Huge Opening for WWE Film
Wrestler-turned actor "Stone Cold" Steve Austin claims that Hollywood has ignored professional wrestling as a potential launching platform and that it will be surprised by the box-office performance of The Condemned, produced by World Wrestling Entertainment, when the movie opens this weekend. Austin, who stars in the film, told today's (Thursday) San Francisco Chronicle: "I come with a built-in, hard-core audience. ... That's one thing Hollywood doesn't understand here. Wrestling isn't just a couple guys beating each other up. ... It's bigger than that. It's a violent Broadway show, with a worldwide audience fan base. There are hardcore wrestling fans who will come out to see us, and then there are hardcore Stone Cold fans." Austin told the Chronicle that Hollywood executives have frequently questioned whether his stardom in the wrestling ring could translate onto the screen. Laut diversen Quellen soll der Film mit Steve Austin in der Hauptrolle, "The Condemned", mehr als schlecht in den amerikanischen Kinos angelaufen sein. Doch dies soll nicht etwa an dem Film liegen, denn allgemein war dies wohl eines der schlechtest besuchten Wochenenden für Kinos in den USA. Man versucht allerdings mit vielen Mitteln den Film an den Mann zu bringen, denn man schickte Steve Austin quer durch Manhattan um dort den Film halbwegs "over" zu bringen.

Er ist auf Platz 9 eingestiegen - das hat also nicht viel mit einem "allgemein schlecht besuchten WoE" zutun ... schließlich sind da alle Streifen betroffen gewesen.

Ich glaube der wird auch nicht viel reissen. Wird denke ich ähnlich wie The Marine laufen.
Auf DVD werde ich aber mal nen Blick riskieren.
