Picturestart has scored screen rights to Xiran Jay Zhao’s best-selling sci-fi novel “Iron Widow” with plans for a franchise based on the property. J.C. Lee will adapt the script.

The book is set in a fictional world where giant transforming robots requiring a boy-girl pair to pilot are the only hope against aliens. The pairing drains the life force of the girls, and one female pilot joins the program to assassinate the male pilot responsible for her sister’s death.
