In June, it was revealed that Super 8‘s Elle Fanning had been cast in the film. Now, the folks at AVPGalaxy have learned that Badlands is currently in production in New Zealand, filming under the codename Backpack, and they’ve gotten their hands on a casting call that reveals some details about the project!

According to this casting call, Predator: Badlands has the following synopsis: A groundbreaking film in which one of the two main storylines delves into the intricate bond of two very different sisters, their familial ties are put to the ultimate test as they pursue divergent paths and missions. We’ve previously heard that the story is set sometime in the future. (Joblo.com)

Speaking with Empire, Trachtenberg revealed, “The creature is front and center, leading the charge. He’s still badass, but there’s something there that touches you emotionally, too. Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting.” The idea for Predator: Badlands came from Trachtenberg’s desire to “find another essential piece of cinema that does what Prey did spiritually — pushing the franchise’s boundaries, letting us root for a hero we rarely get to root for — but in a different way. And that transformed into this big idea of rooting for the Predator.“

Etwas mehr zur Story:

Badlands follows a younger Predator outcast trying to prove himself after getting banished from his tribe. The Predator looks different from any other we’ve seen in other films like he’s a teenager. Elle Fanning is not the victim getting chased in Predator: Badlands. Instead, she’s teamed up with the Predator. She doesn’t appear to be human. Is she synthetic? It’s hard to say; there are no dead giveaways. The story takes place in a world that could be the Predator’s home planet.

Mir gefällt leider das Design vom Predator nicht so wirklich. Und so leids mir tut, aber der halbe Robo nervt schon in den paar Minuten.

Es war bei der MPA-Einreichung nicht klar, ob ein R oder PG-13 rausspringen würde.

He told IGN that, despite Predator: Badlands sporting the same intensity of violence as previous franchise entries, the fact that they’re all aliens or robots might actually give the film a more audience-friendly PG-13. “We don’t have any humans in the movie and so we don’t have any human red blood,” Rosenblatt stated. “So we’re hoping that’s gonna play to our advantage. We’re going to go as hard as we possibly can within those constraints, and we think we’ll be able to do some pretty awesomely gruesome stuff. But in colors other than red.”

Rosenblatt also said, “We’ll see where it ends up, but our hope for it is that it can be a PG-13 that feels like an R. That’s kind of our hope. And really, what that’s about is just being able to broaden out the audience for a movie like this.” (Joblo)

Der Film hat das Konzept aber gar nicht, wenn man sich die Trailer mal anschaut.
Wo ist denn da das Problem? Ich glaube nicht, dass Trachtenber einen gruselig-fiesen Film drehen wollte.
Zu viel CGI - da würde ich allerdings mitgehen.

Bei "Riddick" hatte Teil 2 auch einen anderen Stil als Teil 1.
Ja, die Fortsetzung war nicht gut - aber da war die Ausrichtung halt auch einfach eine andere.

Die ersten 15 Minuten wurden ja bereits gezeigt. Die Eindrücke sind positiv - aber es heißt auch, dass das Feeling anders als bei den anderen Filmen der Franchise sei. Und das war ja der Plan. Über den Tellerrand hinaus schauen ist wohl ein Stück weit angesagt.
