Quelle: comingsoon.netIf one female-driven riff on Lionsgate's The Expendables franchise wasn't enough, Deadline reports that another is in the works. Millennium Films, the company behind The Expendables and The Expendables 2 is now working on their own spinoff, to be titled ExpendaBelles. They've brought aboard Legally Blonde screenwriters McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith to provide the screenplay.
The rival project, being developed by 1984 Private Defense Contractors, is still without a title but Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff have already joined the cast. Dutch Southern is providing the screenplay for that project.
ExpendaBelles will be produced by Mark Gill, Julie Kroll, Avi Lerner, Heidi Jo Markel. Trevor Short will executive produce

Quelle: deadline.comFor some reason, Millennium Films chief Avi Lerner likes to drop scoops in the Bulgarian press. That might mean that his revelation to the Standart that he is negotiating with Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich to be in The ExpendaBelles is news that could be contained within that country, where Lerner intends to shoot the movie.
Robert Luketic to Direct Millennium Films' The ExpendaBelles

Deadline is reporting that Killers and 21 director Robert Luketic has been brought aboard Millennium Films’ all-female version of their hit The Expendables franchise, currently dubbed The ExpendaBelles. The project reunites Luketic with Legally Blonde scribes Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith who have penned the screenplay for the film. The site also reveals that they've learned the logline for the film, which reads as follows:
"When America’s Navy SEALs are wiped out trying to penetrate the island lair of a deadly despot who has captured one of the world’s top nuclear scientists, it becomes clear that there is no such thing as the right man for the job and that this is a mission so impossible that only women can handle it. The only way in: some of the world’s deadliest female operatives must pose as high-class call-girls shipped in by private plane to satisfy a dictator–and instead save the scientist and the day."

Expendabelles will serve as an origin story set in the late 1990s during the height of Y2K-era tension and geopolitical uncertainty. The newly reimagined project — originally conceived more than a decade ago alongside Millennium by Heidi Jo Markel, Patrick Muldoon and Julie Kroll — plans to introduce a new generation of elite female operatives in “a stylized, action-driven cinematic event designed to expand the mythology of the franchise while standing firmly on its own,” the filmmakers tell THR, adding that it is moving forward “with the support of Lionsgate.” After all, the studio acquired the rights to the Expendables franchise late last year.
Re: ExpendaBelles (20xx)

So!
