Ghostbusters Reboot to Shoot in Early 2015!
Source: Deadline, March 18, 2014
Following the tragic loss of Harold Ramis last month, it was reported that the script for a third Ghostbusters film was being reworked. Now, Deadline brings word that Ivan Reitman is stepping down as the film's director and will help in finding a replacement as the studio targets an early 2015 production in the Big Apple.
The storyline is rumored to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script.
"[W]e now have a draft that is very good," Reitman tells the outlet. "That the studio is very excited about... It’s a version of 'Ghostbusters' that has the originals in a very minor role. When I came back from Harold’s funeral, it was really moving and it made me think about a lot of things. I’d just finished directing Draft Day, which I’m really happy with and proud of. Working on a film that is smaller and more dramatic was so much fun and satisfying. I just finally met with Amy and Doug Belgrad when I got back. I said I’d been thinking about it for weeks, that I’d rather just produce this Ghostbusters. I told them I thought I could help but let’s find a really good director and make it with him. So that’s what we’ve agreed will happen."

Sony Eyeing Bridesmaids' Paul Feig to Direct Ghostbusters 3
Source: The Hollywood Reporter, August 2, 2014
The Hollywood Reporter has added this brief, but pretty significant bit: "Sources say the film will be a reboot focusing on female Ghostbusters." The original story follows:
The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that Sony has zeroed in on a director for the long-gestating Ghostbusters 3 and their first choice is none other than Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig. They report that no formal negotiations have taken place, but the studio has its eyes clearly set on the director to take on the sequel.
To date, Feig has directed three feature films with a fourth currently in production. His first, 2006's Unaccompanied Minors, brought in just $21 million at the global box office, but his two most recent films, 2011's Bridesmaids and 2013's The Heat, have grossed $288 million and $229 million worldwide, respectively. His next film, Spy, opens May 22, 2015.
Set to begin production next year in New York City, the storyline is rumored to focus on a new generation of Ghostbusters with cameos from the original stars written into the script. Bad Teacher and "The Office" writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg wrote the current draft.

Quelle: THR.comDirector Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) just confirmed that he'll be directing the third "Ghostbusters" movie and has brought on his "The Heat" writer Katie Dippold to provide the script.
"It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters and writing it with Katie Dippold," he wrote on Twitter. "And yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call."
Apparently the plan is to introduce an entirely new Ghostbusters team made up of women. The project is considered a reboot and will not be connected to the earlier movies. It's still likely that original cast-members will get cameos.

"And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from
Thy hand. That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth

Einige angebliche Details, die "Sony" bislang auch noch nicht dementiert hat:
Kristen Wiig is playing Erin Garber, a published author on the subject of the paranormal. Erin now works for Columbia University.
Leslie Jones is playing Abby Bergman, who co-authored the book with Garber. Since publication, the two former colleagues had a falling out and went their separate ways. Abby more actively chases ghost a la Ghost Hunters. This tension between academic investigation (Wiig's character) and mainstream media investigation (Jones' character) is central to the story.
Kate McKinnon is playing Abby Berman's new partner, Jillian.
Melissa McCarthy is playing Patty, an NYC subway worker who stumbles across the main, supernatural threat in the film.
HitFlix also believes Bill Murray and Peter Dinklage are being eyed for roles in the remake. Apparently Sony wants Murray to play Martin Heiss, "a man who is a professional supernatural debunker who is out to prove that the Ghostbusters are frauds." As for Dinklage, the studio wants him to play the main villain, "a creepy mechanical genius." HitFix goes on to say, "there's another role that, if they cast who they want, is going to be the most interesting part of the film." (joblo.com)
Channing Tatum May Headline a Ghostbusters Film from the Russo Brothers!
A surprise move on the part of Sony Pictures, Deadline has just revealed that development is underway on a new Ghostbusters film separate from the one that Paul Feig is directing. According to the outlet, Captain America: The Winter Soldier helmers Joe and Anthony Russo are tentatively planning to helm with Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce providing the screenplay. What’s more, Channing Tatum will produce and likely star with the plot following an idea Tatum has been developing with Dan Aykroyd!
“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Ivan Reitman tells the outlet. “This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following hear. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”
Described as a “counterpart” to Feig’s Ghostbusters, details are currently few and we’re not quite sure yet whether this new film will be branching out of the world of the reboot or whether it will have ties back to Reitman’s original two Ghostbusters features. The news does arrive simultaneously with the announcement of Ghostcorps, a new company from Reitman and Aykroyd being established at Sony with an aim to explore Ghostbusters merchandising opportunities, including potential films, television tie-ins, and more.
Feig’s take on the property is said to be targeting a scarier tone that will not maintain any continuity with the original film or its 1989 sequel (or the surprisingly continuity-heavy animated series “The Real Ghostbusters,” for that matter). Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon are set to headline the July 22, 2016 release.
UPDATE: Although it sounds a great deal is still up in the air as to the specifics of how the studio will be going about it, Badass Digest has an intriguing update that suggests that as many as four new Ghostbusters films are in the works at Sony Pictures. Assuming it moves forward as planned, the Channing Tatum-led film will follow Feig’s Ghostbusters with tentative plans to then explore the same supernatural universe in both a prequel film and a franchise crossover film. What’s more, the site claims that Chris Pratt is likely planning to star opposite Tatum!
