Dass sie Drago wieder aufgegriffen haben, ist natürlich weiterhin öde. Die Macher hätten ruhig den Rat von Rocky in dem Trailer berücksichtigen sollen: Die Gegenwart ist wichtiger als die Vergangenheit.
Eine neue Geschichte statt derart an eine alte anzuknüpfen hätte ich für sinniger gehalten. Naja/nunja...

Der Trailer an sich macht einen soliden Eindruck - allerdings so wie auch diverse andere Boxer-Streifen der letzten Zeit...

Director Steven Caple Jr. had a large task ahead of him for his second feature and he does an outstanding job of bringing this complex story together. The boxing action is sharp and powerful, giving the audience plenty of moments to wince and cheer along with, and the moments of human drama are handled deftly; don't be surprised if you well up in multiple scenes, even if it's tears of joy. CREED II is that rare sequel that carries on the traditions set before in prior films (and I lump the CREED films right along the lineage of the ROCKY films), while paving the way for the next generation. While I hope to see Jordan and co. step back into the ring for many more sequels, I'm almost afraid of them having to live up to what CREED II has done in honoring the legacy of all involved, but if these films have taught us anything, it's that you should always root for the underdog.

As Rocky II was to Rocky, so is Creed II to its powerhouse progenitor — that is, a pale shadow of its daddy. Slack and unexciting compared to Ryan Coogler's blisteringly good 2015 reconception of a 1970s icon for modern audiences, this follow-up is an undeniable disappointment in nearly every way, from its dreary homefront interludes to a climactic boxing match that feels far-fetched in the extreme. Nothing here has been freshly thought out, nor is there a drop of surprise as to the story's trajectory, forcing the viewer to tolerate conventional emotional beats and stale plot contrivances. All the same, Creed is a brand just as Rocky was, so it will succeed, at least up to a point.
