Heath Ledger Not Appearing in The Dark Knight Rises ... And Nolan confirms Tom Hardy has a role

In addition to the stories about how The Dark Knight Rises will be Christopher Nolan's last Batman film (seriously, how many times does Nolan need to say this before it becomes non-news?), a rumor is also making the rounds that Nolan will be using unused footage of Heath Ledger's Joker in the new film. Nolan debunked that rumor while talking to Thompson on Hollywood, confirmed that Tom Hardy has a role and gave a bit of an update:

Nolan, bearded and affable, explained that he’s scrambling to finish the script for The Dark Knight Rises, his third Batman movie, which he’s writing in collaboration with his brother Jonathan, mostly from his oceanfront abode in the Paradise Cove trailer park in Malibu..The script is due in January for a July release. But he wouldn’t say what the story’s about or who the villain is, other than to confirm that Inception’s Tom Hardy will play “a key role, not saying good or bad,” and to shoot down reports that he’ll resurrect The Joker by including unused footage of Heath Ledger’s performance in the previous chapter. “That’s all wrong,” said the writer-director, who’s also producing the next Superman movie, for Zack Snyder to direct.


Eckhart Confirms No Two-Face in The Dark Knight Rises

Aaron Eckhart confirmed once and for all to MTV that Harvey Dent/Two-Face will not be appearing in The Dark Knight Rises, which he says "is going to blow everybody away."

"Chris and I had a meeting, on the beach, just the two of us," Eckhart said. "I said, 'Chris, a lot of people are asking me if I'm in the next 'Batman.' And Chris said, 'Yes?' I said, 'Am I?' He looked at me and he said, 'No.'" He added that he wasn't joking about the beach part and said that they "found ourselves alone on the beach together on a stormy day and he delivered the news to me. I was heartbroken. But Chris has his reasons and my life must go on... Honestly, it was Heath's movie to go on. We had a great movie. I'm so honored to be a part of that movie."

Anne Hathaway to Play Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle (AKA Catwoman) in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Christopher Nolan stated, "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story."

In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, "I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies."

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

The Dark Knight Rises is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Interview mit G. Oldman:

While doing press for his latest, Red Riding Hood, Gary Oldman spoke with MTV News and dropped a few hints about the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises.
"It's a great, great story," says Oldman, though he confirms that he hasn't read the full script yet, "You look at 'The Dark Knight' and you think, 'How's he going to top it?' But I think he has."
When questioned about the statements that Christopher Nolan has made in the past regarding the third film being the likely end of the modern Batman franchise as we know it, Oldman reaffirmed that Rises will tie up the series as a trilogy.
"The scope and also the way he brings it back to 'Batman Begins,'" says the actor when asked to described the film's climatic tone, "and really what Bruce Wayne discovers about himself. What he learns about himself at the end of this one."
While little is confirmed at this time, speculation about the pending casting of another villain, rumored to be Talia al Ghul, would certainly fit with Oldman's comments about returning to the plotline of Batman Begins.

Gräßlich. Ich kenn Bane immer noch nur aus den Schumacher Batman Film und da war er nur ein plumper Handlanger. Und nun ein Oberschurke. Kann es mir immer noch nicht vorstellen ob diese Figur das Zeug davon hat. Bin mehr als gespannt.

Naja in den Comics ist er ja ein hochintelligenter Mensch, der neben dem Joker ja der bösartigste Feind Batmans ist. Wenn er jetzt endlich mal so da gestellt werden würde, wäre das echt klasse.
