Based on Simon Stalenhag’s illustrated novel and adapted by the Russo’s usual collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the story follows a runaway teenage girl and her yellow toy robot on a journey through an alternate-reality 1997 as a high-tech consumerist society is in decline.
Die Vorlage ist fantastisch. Ich habe aber Zweifel daran, dass die Russo (bis auf die Bilder) die Adaption vernünftig hinbekommen, da sie dazu die besondere Atmosphäre des Werks treffen (oder überhaupt eine gute Atmosphäre hinbekommen) müssten...
Die Russos haben es sich auch nicht nehmen lassen, einen eigenen Prolog zu erfinden:

Die schwachen Kritiken bestätigen meine Befürchtungen:
Fans of the graphic novel will be disappointed by the fact that the grim story has been given a family-friendly, upbeat makeover. Much of the film plays out like an homage to Who Framed Roger Rabbit—albeit with robots instead of toons and a healthy dose of Star Wars mixed in.

"Electric State" ist nicht nur ein Kritikerflop (15% bei "RT") - sondern auch nicht gerade ein Publikumsmagnet: Aktuell steht er auf Platz 1 bei "Netflix" mit 25.2 Millionen Views (zum Start). Zum Vergleich (aus der letzten Zeit): "Back in Action" lief mit 46.8 Millionen und "Carry On" mit 42 Millionen Views an...
