Paul Verhoeven wowed and splashed us with entertaining trash back in '97 with STARSHIP TROOPERS. Not only was it a bloody good time, but we also had the chance to check out Dina Meyers naked in a shower! Then came the lackluster STD affair STARSHIP TROOPERS 2, featuring a chick who looked like Meyers, but wasn't. Apparently part 2 made a lot of money...

MovieHole is reporting today that there's now a STARSHIP TROOPERS 3 in the works, from writer Ed Neumeier. Stepping away from the concept of PART 2, and more in sync with PART 1, PART 3 is said to even have more cast members from the first installment to return - including Johnny Rico himself, Casper Van Dien. Not that that should surprise anyone who's been to the STD section of their video store lately, but very cool none-the-less. According to his official site (yes, there is such a thing), Dien says “The script is along the same line as the first. It is Awesome”.

I can only hope he's right. Monster space movies are my cup of vodka, and as STARSHIP TROOPERS was one of my favorite movies back when it came out, I'd really like to see a sequel do it some justice. Stick around as we find out more upcoming news on STARSHIP TROOPERS 3 as we hear it!

Jolene Blalock, best known as the leggy ‘T’Pol’ on TVs "Star Trek: Enterprise", will play the female lead in the forthcoming "Starship Troopers : Marauder".
According to StarshipTroopers3.net, the actress is playing tough pilot Lola Beck.
The film, also starring Casper Van Dien, Amanda Donohoe ("L.A Law"), Boris Kodjoe and Marnett Patterson, will film shortly in South Africa under the direction of Ed Neumeier.

From what I hear, the new "Starship Troopers" movie turned out pretty damn good. My producing partner just worked with Casper Van Dien on something, who told him for the money - I believe it cost about $20 million?; which in Africa, where it was shot, is probably the equivalent of $100 million US - that it looks magnificent. Everything about it, from who’s involved to the storyline, bodes well for it.
StarshipTroopers3.net had a chat to one of the stars of "Starship Troopers : Marauder", Stelio Savante ("Ugly Betty"), who says this one is very much of the same breed that the first one was - being a social commentary and all that jazz.
"Yes it's a very well written satirical commentary in the form of a sci-fi action movie that captivates you and that's not easy to pull off but Ed did it brilliantly. I personally love the faith aspect of it. I feel it makes the film very rich because you could easily come out if it feeling one way or another about your own faith and I do have a strong faith in God so the progression of my character's faith was natural. Each character symbolizes someone or something and the way they endure and overcome tumultuous circumstances in the face of adversity is determined by their faith or lack thereof."

Laut Starshiptroopers3.net kommt der Streifen in den USA als DTV, in einigen europäischen Staaten allerdings im Kino. Welche das genau sind, ist noch nicht bekannt.
