New Line has bought the rights to Microsoft video game Freelancer. Alex Proyas (Dark City, I Robot) is writing the screenplay and will direct the movie after his Silver Surfer in 2009. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing via their Temple Hill.
Josh Lucas (Stealth) will play the freelance pilot who makes a living as a mercenary who gets targeted in a conspiracy for alien artifacts.
Freelancer is slated for theatrical release in 2010.
