Javier Gutierrez, but he had been busy, having been cast in Dracula and as Bard the Bowman in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug while other actors in the mix included James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston and Alexander Skarsgard. Instead, they decided to push back the start of the movie until early 2014 to accommodate Evans, who next appears as the villain in the summer's anticipated Fast & Furious 6.

– O’Barr noted that he was surprised at some of the bigger names circling the project (it was mentioned that a “Game of Thrones” actor is eying one of the parts). He also stated that the bulk of the cast will be British.
– As with the graphic novel, the actual bird that accompanies Eric throughout the tale will speak to him. O’Barr mentioned that the crow might be brought to life by way of some creepy stop-motion, a la the work of The Brothers Quay.
– The new film will shoot in Belgium, which surprisingly stands in quite well for Detroit in some spots.
– As with the original film, O’Barr has a say in the choice of soundtrack selections. He said that there are several newer bands being looked at, and the chosen artists will write new songs specifically for the film. In addition, there will be some actual Joy Division songs in the movie, as with the graphic novel it’s based on (the ’94 film only featured a Joy Division cover – Nine Inch Nails’ take on “Dead Souls”).
– O’Barr said that he hopes the new film will be successful so that a new franchise will emerge to tackle different characters in a variety of settings and time periods – unlike the previous franchise, which simply rehashed the original film over and over. He also said that, if that were the case, the sequel would feature a very punk, Joan Jett-like female Crow as the lead.

The upcoming remake of The Crow, set to be directed by Corin Hardy (The Hallow), is, according to Deadline, looking to cast Birdman star Andrea Riseborough as Top Dollar. According to the outlet, the gender-swapped version of the character will serve as the film’s chief antagonist, as the character did in Alex Proyas’ original 1994 adaptation. There, Top Dollar was played by Michael Wincott.
Planned as a gritty reboot of the iconic James O’Barr comic book character, The Crow will star Jack Huston (“Boardwalk Empire”) as Eric Draven, a man who returns from the grave as a supernatural antihero on a mission to avenge his wife’s murder, so that his soul can finally rest. “Downtown Abbey” star Jessica Brown Findlay is also attached to play Draven’s murdered girlfriend Shelly in flashbacks.
In the original comics, Top Dollar was little more than a common drug dealer, although the character was rewritten in the 1994 film to become the kingpin of a criminal syndicate. The character subsequently appeared on the small screen, played by John Pyper-Ferguson on the television series “The Crow: Stairway to Heaven.”
Featuring a screenplay by Cliff Dorfman, the new take on The Crow is produced by Ryan Kavanaugh, Kevin Misher, Jeff Most and the original film’s Edward R. Pressman.

According to the website The Prague Reporter, the 10-week-long production on The Crow reboot starring Bill Skarsgård (IT) as Eric Draven just wrapped up in Prague last week! The website reports, “During a lengthy 10-week shoot, The Crow shot across numerous locations in the Old Town and New Town neighborhoods of the Czech capital. One of the major set pieces for The Crow was shot at Prague’s Rudolfinum concert hall, and involved the participation of hundreds of extras in formal attire.”
The Crow is a feature film from director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell), with Bill Skarsgård (IT) leading the cast as Eric Draven and singer/actor FKA Twigs co-starring. Danny Huston (30 Days of Night) also stars.
Zach Baylin (King Richard) wrote script, with the new movie of course based on James O’Barr’s original graphic novel that spawned a previous feature film franchise.
Producers on this fresh new reimagining include Molly Hassell (Braven, Terminal), Victor Hadida (Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchises), John Jencks (Honest Thief, Guns Akimbo), and Edward R. Pressman (American Psycho, The Crow, Wall Street).
