District 9 and Elysium helmer Neill Blomkamp made headlines last month when he posted a series of concept art designs for a new film in the 20th Century Fox’s Alien franchise. Although the filmmaker admitted that the designs were unofficial, he hinted that he’d be more than happy to take on such a project. Today, Blomkamp posted a new image with a message that should make Alien franchise fans pretty happy!

“So I think it’s officially my next film,” he writes!

“I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of ‘Alien,'” says the director. “So it’s ‘Alien,’ ‘Aliens’ and then this movie.”

Zur Beruhigung einiger... ;)
Blomkamp calmed panicked fans in his latest interview, this time with AlloCine.

“My favorites are the first two movies. So I want to make a film that’s connected to Alien and Aliens. That’s my goal. I’m not trying to undo Alien3 or Alien: Resurrection, I just want it to be connected to Alien and Aliens.”

Scott is insisting that 20th Century Fox hold off on Alien 5 until after Prometheus 2 goes into production. Here’s the full quote:

“Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea. Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first.

Right. So it looks like we won’t see the re-jig of a third Alien movie until 2018, maybe later.

Neill Blomkamp says that his Alien 5 is “holding” pending 20th Century Fox’s plans for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Paradise Lost

As has been previously speculated, 20th Century Fox‘s plans for Neill Blomkamp‘s proposed big screen foray into their Alien universe appear to be on hold. In fact, “holding” and “pending” are the terms Neill Blomkamp himself used in a Tweet the filmmaker published earlier tonight: alien is kinda holding/ pending prometheus 2. So I shall be working on other things... as much as I love the xeno- and Lt ripley (Comingsoon.net)

Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Will Focus On Newt?!

Biehn spoke candidly with Icons of Fright, in which he reveals that Blomkamp will bring Newt back, while also using her to further the franchise (in a new direction).

“They’re planning on bringing me and Newt back and at this point Newt will be around twenty-seven years old. I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it’s really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt. It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that’s what the bottom line is now: money.“

Aktuelle Aussagen:
With Blomkamp releasing his latest Aliens-inspired film, he’s opened up a bit about the development of his Alien, confirming both that Scott had it killed and that it’s most definitely dead.

“I think it’s totally dead, yes,” Blomkamp told the Verge. “That would be an accurate assumption at this point.”

He continued: “It’s sad. I spent a long time working on that, and I feel like it was really pretty impressive. But politically, the way it’s gone now, and the way that it all is — it’s just not going to live.”

In regards to Scott killing the project, Blomkamp confirms his vision touched on some of Scott’s fresh ideas: “Yeah. Ridley [Scott] was one of my idols growing up. He’s so talented and he’s made this film that really set me off in a direction. I want to just be as respectful and not go stamping around in this world that he created. I think that if the circumstances were different, and I didn’t feel like I was getting too close to something that he apparently feels a massive personal connection to, that things that may have played out differently. But I did want to be as respectful as possible.”
