The album is now expected to hit the stores in September. Originally Lars Ulrich said it would be out in February, then the release was delayed till April. With the band still in the studio, it was clear that April was not gonna happen. Fans can take comfort in the fact that the last time the band spent this much time in the studio the year was 1991 and the result was the Black Album. One can only hope for similar results this time!

In the meantime, the boys have lined up a few dates for their upcoming European tour this summer. I guess that means they hope to be done recording by June.

Got the new So What Reply with quote Got it yesterday (tried posting this info at the Metallica.com site but the mods deleted it)....you will not be disappointed. Sounds like they went ahead and recorded all 14 songs they had. 9-10 will be on the album. The other 4-5 will be available to download through ITunes or some type of similar forum. Many songs are very long with many different dynamics, time signature changes, mood changes, etc. There IS an instrumental. They haven''t decided if that will be on the album or for download only. No release date was given. Sounds like James & Lars took back the reins on this one. One song is so fast, James said he had cramps in his wrists after playing it in the studio a few times. Ok, I think that''s all the major highlights. Too lazy to type it all out.

I read the entire thing, and many things popped out such as Lars saying they are 80 % through, and they decided to record 14 songs and feature around 8 on the album, and release the rest on ITunes or Side B's. They are also returning to standard tuning and using a special studio that many many bands have created the best albums of all time like Tom Petty, REO, etc. I feel really positive after reading this and also it seems like James and Lars were pointing to the fact they by the time they were interviewed for this article, they have finished recording the skeleton layer of the songs and have written a majority of the vocals, and they are now concentrating on putting in the details and auxiliary sounds, as well as vocals and backing vocals. They also mentioned somewhere in the article that they have been in and out of the studio for a year and half (since the Rolling Stones gig in mid 2006) so they have accomplished a lot since then. They re using the time from Nov 07 until the release date to put touches and details, not so much to revamp any music. They already have their songs decided and just need to pump them out. Near the end, the editor asks them when it will come out and Lars said "When It's Done" and he elaborates that it is nice there is no stress and deadline like previous albums, and that they havent planned a big tour and album art to be due on a certain date, so they are basically playing it by ear. he also mentioned if you are counting the days for the album release, it will go into "mega triple digits" and remember, this is from late October, so a couple hundred days would be April-Mayish. Although they returned to the studio in April 07', however, the writing process started in 2005 when they took a year off after their 04 tour. Will this mean a release date before their European tour? I dunno, but this article reassures me that it may be a possibility. What is confusing is that in current news, there is no mention of single, album work, album title, nothing, which usually begins to surface a few months before the release date, so I think by March-April we will know when the release date is imminent. hope this helps for people that didn't want to read the whole thing, -CM

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently spoke with Revolver magazine about the band's ninth studio album, which is expected out later this year and will be its first all-new effort since 2003's "St. Anger". Ulrich told the magazine that the group's new material "is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," adding, "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes." Ulrich also said that the album has more in common with some of the group's '80s releases than more recent offerings like "St. Anger" and "Load".

Ulrich wouldn't agree that the yet-to-be-titled disc is a full-blown return to the past, saying, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the fuck? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me."

The drummer also revealed that producer Rick Rubin, working with the band for the first time, wanted METALLICA to use classic efforts like "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" as "reference points" for its new songs.

There's no word yet on an exact release date for the new METALLICA CD, although a summer release is likely.

Ulrich said fans can expect to hear some new material from their forthcoming ninth studio album.

"We're psyched to play some new songs," he laughed. "In fact, if we don't, then I give people permission to come and find me and slap me across the face! We're certainly planning on rolling out some of the new songs for the first time, but right now our focus is on finishing the record. As soon as that's out of the way, we'll be hitting the rehearsal room and getting to grips with playing these bastards live!"

Die Live-Situation is halt ne andere im Studio. Da sitzt jeder separat und klimpert seine Spuren ein.....für das alles zusammen ohne Pausen, Overdubs etc. und im Stehen, im Springen, mit Gitarre rumreißen, mit Ansagen, Anfeuern hinzukriegen, muss man's als Band halt noch ein paar mal proben.

Einen kleinen Sinneswandel gibt es von Metallica zu vermelden. Wir wir berichteten, befindet sich die Band seit über einem Jahr im Studio um den Nachfolger zu "St.Anger" aufzunehmen. Erscheinen soll das Album im September. Trotz der kritischen Einstellung gegenüber neuartigen Veröffentlichungs - und Vervielfältigungsmethoden von Musik und der daraus folgenden gerichtlichen Auseinandersetzung mit Napster, wird es alle Songs der neuen Platte ab Mai als Stream geben. Eine extra dafür konzipierte Homepage ist bereits online und kann hier betrachtet werden.

Ich denke zwar, durch dieses Teaser-Feeling ist das alles noch ein bisschen so wie bei einem guten Kinotrailer: geht gut ab, sagt aber noch null über das fertige Produkt aus.

Trotzdem: Klingt schon ziemlich fett und eins scheint schon mal klar: wie erwartet, ist der Trashcan-Sound von "St. Anger" nicht etwa der neue Stil Metallicas, sondern einfach nur ein Statement im Namen des Zorns, das einzig und alleine für die damalige Periode von 2003 relevant ist. Jetzt wendet man sich offenbar folgerichtig anderen Dingen zu und "verwertet" die rohe Wut quasi... ja einfach in geile Mucke.

Ich sach ma so... ich bin zuversichtlich.

Nope, die alten Alben erscheinen gerade alle als Re-Release auf Vinyl, ansonsten gibt's aber nix derartiges zu vermelden. Brauch ich auch nicht (auch wenn ne basslastigere Abmischung reizvoll wäre)...dann lieber ein paar rare Justice-Schinken auf der Tour....Dyers Eve als Opener oder so
