FINAL DESTINATION is set to make a comeback as New Line Cinema is looking to restart the horror franchise.
In order to bring Death back to the big-screen, New Line have hired two writers who are more than experienced when it comes to creative kills: SAW franchise writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who penned SAW IV, SAW V, SAW VI, and SAW 3D.

The Final Destination franchise is being retooled with a brand new movie, with Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car, Spider-Man: No Way Home) on board as producer. Watts is producing the sixth installment of the franchise for HBO Max, with Lori Evans Taylor (“Wicked Wicked Games”) and Guy Busick (Scream 2021) writing Final Destination 6.
As an update today, THR reports that Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Freaks) have been brought on board to direct Final Destination 6, with the plot under wraps.
Speaking with Dread Central, Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick recently teased what we can expect, suggesting the new movie will change up the classic formula.
Reddick teased, “I will say that it’s not just going to be another kind of ‘we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them.’ And there’s one wrinkle that we kind of added to every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit: this one is… a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established.”
Just as she’s about to leave home for college, 18 year old STEFANI, who’s been having horrific nightmares about dying in a tower accident in the 1960s, discovers that her dream is actually a premonition that happened to her grandmother, Esther, who thwarted death fifty years ago but is now running out of time. Stefani learns that though her grandmother thwarted Death (until she died in her 80s), and Death has been going after the would-have-been victims of that long-ago catastrophe, killing them off and then going after their children. Stefani and her family realize that their bloodline isn’t safe from Death, who will take them violently and gruesomely, in order, unless someone like Stefani figures out a way to stop it.
The sixth installment in the Final Destination franchise will take audiences back to the very beginning of Death’s twisted sense of justice.
Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.
