"Let Me In" tells a terrifying tale about an alienated 12-year old boy named Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Achingly lonely, Owen spends his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. His only friend is his new neighbor Abby (Chloe Moretz), an eerily self-possessed young girl who lives next door with her silent father (Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins). A frail, troubled child about Owen's age, Abby emerges from her heavily curtained apartment only at night and always barefoot, seemingly immune to the bitter winter elements. Recognizing a fellow outcast, Owen opens up to her and before long, the two have formed a unique bond.

Das Original war mir einfach (und das gebe ich offen zu) zu "nordisch" - bin einfach nicht damit warm geworden. Selbst wenn das Remake ne 1:1-Kopie wird, dürfte es diesen "Kritikpunkt" meinerseits locker ausbügeln. Ein solches Vorgehen mag zwar unoriginell und so sein - aber meinem Seh-Empfinden und -Vergnügen wird es definitiv entgegen kommen.

Der Trailer sieht stylisch und stimmig aus - ohne groß von der Vorlage abzuweichen (sprich: erfüllt die Definition eines Remakes treffend, zumal man sich ja auch schon hier über eventuelle Änderungen im Vorfeld aufgeregt hat). Die Besetzung halte ich für gelungen (Kodi Smit-McPhee fand ich in "the Road" prima, Chloe Moretz war ja nicht nur "Hit-Girl", sondern ist inzwischen ja schon ein regelrechter Horror-Genre-Veteran - und dazu dann noch Richard Jenkins und Elias Koteas!), die Regiearbeit sollte eingentlich auch passen, der Look ist superb. Kann also kommen!

Und ich bleib beim Original, das ist nämlich der Hammer!

When a string of grisly murders puts the town on high alert, Abby's father disappears, and the terrified girl is left to fend for herself. Still, she repeatedly rebuffs Owen's efforts to help her and her increasingly bizarre behavior leads the imaginative Owen to suspect she’s hiding an unthinkable secret.

Inhaltlich dürfte es wohl in Richtung 1:1-Kopie gehen - dafür sind Darsteller und Optik ansprechender, während es von der Regie her vielleicht ein unentschieden geben könnte... ;)

Believe or not, Let Me In is by far one of the most stunning remakes horror fans have ever been witness to. Although too faithful at times, it is still a remake that is exceptionally loyal to its predecessor’s storyline, themes and, most importantly, its fans that made the remake possible in the first place. It is a beautifully haunting film that is quite possibly one of the best horror films viewers will see this year. ... 4/5

As for the question of Swedish or American, which version is better? I simply don't know if I can offer an answer to that because the experience of watching the two versions is so wildly different. The Alfredson film was my first exposure to this story, so everything was fresh. Since then I have read the novel, which dives much more deeply into any number of issues barely hinted at in the Alfredson film. And approaching this film it was simply impossible to just sit and watch and experience the story fresh because comparisons to both book and earlier film were spinning in my head throughout the entire run time. And this, I think, is about the only argument that I'll accept when it comes to opposing film remakes this close to the previous film version - that things are still so fresh that it is almost impossible to judge the new version on its own terms. What I do know is that while neither film is perfect both are pretty damn good and a host of people unfamiliar with the story are about to get a treat.

Danke, aber nochmal muss ich mir den echt nicht antun - obgleich er ja "okay" (im Sinne von "mäßig") war. Freu mich sehr aufs Remake - wird auf jeden Fall bei mir deutlich besser wegkommen (gilt ja eh überwiegend als mindestens ebenbürtig, nur schöner anzusehen)...

Gibt leider kein Kopfschüttelsmilie ;-) ... Hab bei Schnittberichte das Cover der Amivariante gesehen. Da gibts ja wieder mal nen Stephen King Gütesiegel ... pappte das überhaupt schonmal auf einem guten Film? ;-)
