After years of rumors and speculation, Dimension Films is officially casting Halloween Returns, which will bring Michael Myers back to the big screen once again.
A new generation of victims are set to emerge with this new Halloween remake, writes Moviehole, who broke the news this morning.
Titled Halloween Returns, the new project will be a standalone film set to reintroduce audiences to Michael Myers years after his initial rampage.
Halloween Returns will pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter.
Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line.
It sort of sounds inspired by Wes Craven’s classic Shocker, no?
As previously reported, Halloween Returns will not be in 3-D nor follow in the footsteps of Rob Zombie’s remake to John Carpenter’s 1979 masterpiece, Halloween.
Called a “recalibration” back in February, the next Halloween is penned by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the duo behind various Saw sequels, as well as Pacific Rim, Feast, The Collector and The Collection.

Halloween Heads to Blumhouse with John Carpenter Returning!
John Carpenter will return to the Halloween franchise to executive produce a new big screen feature!
The Blumhouse Productions offices in Los Angeles were host tonight to a special surprise announcement, revealing that a new Halloween movie is in the works! Partnering with Trancas International, Miramax and Blumhouse will cofinance the new feature, which has already attached a key talent that should delight horror movie fans everywhere. John Carpenter, the legendary director behind the original Halloween, will return to the franchise as executive producer! Trancas’ Malek Akkad will also produce alongside Jason Blum.
“38 years after the original Halloween,” says John Carpenter, “I’m going to help to try to make the 10th sequel the scariest of them all.”
Although he’s not yet officially attached to do so, Jason Blum made it clear at the announcement event that the hope is to see John Carpenter also return to score the new Halloween.

Carpenter schreibt:
So you say you want a Revolution?
You want to shake things up and bring back Halloween and make it rock again?
Well so do I.
So here’s the announcement you’ve all been waiting for:
David Gordon Green and Danny McBride are joining the project to complete the creative team. David and Danny will write the script together and David will direct. I will continue in my executive producer role to consult and offer my advice and feedback as needed.
David and Danny both came to my office recently with Jason Blum and shared their vision for the new movie and…WOW. They get it. I think you’re gonna dig it. They blew me away.
I might even do the music. Maybe. It could be kind of cool.
And you’ll get to see it in theaters on October 19th, 2018.

Said McBride:
You know, it’s not a remake. It’s actually, it’s gonna continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way. And for our mythology, we’re focusing mainly in the first two movies and what that sets up and then where the story can go from there.
McBride also promised a no-laughs, return to form horror flick:
Green and I are definitely going to [do] a straight-up horror. Halloween has always been one of my favorite movies of all time. There’s a simplicity and an efficiency to that first one that I think allows the movies just to be scary as hell. And so Green and I, our approach is to get back to that.
“Local look-alike actors were cast, costumes were duplicated, and locations were chosen that allowed the filmmakers to capture the overall aesthetic of Carpenter’s classic. It should be noted that the production had virtually no budget, and was a true labor of love for all involved.”

Re: Halloween Returns (Carpenter/Blumhouse)

Re: Halloween Returns (Carpenter/Blumhouse)
Re: Halloween Returns (Carpenter/Blumhouse)
