STUDIO CITY, CALIF. AND NEW YORK, N.Y. – Nov. 2, 2015 – CBS Television Studios announced today it will launch a totally new “Star Trek” television series in January 2017. The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.

Nicholas Meyer (Regisseur von Star Trek II) stösst als Autor und Produzent dazu. Schön zu sehen, dass wenigstens CBS die Sache ernst nimmt.

First off, the show apparently won't be set in J.J. Abrams reboot universe, but rather in the original continuity that all the previous Star Trek series called home. Secondly, the show won't exactly be a prequel or a sequel to the pre-existing continuity, but will take place right in the middle as it is said to be set some time after STAR TREK: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY but before Star Trek: The Next Generation. It's an era that hasn't been explored all that much in any of the films or TV series, but I know many Star Trek fans were hoping that the new show would be set post-STAR TREK: NEMESIS. However, there's still hope for that as Birth.Movies.Death has also heard that the the upcoming series could be a seasonal anthology, which means that after the first season, we could be in for season-long arcs taking place throughout Star Trek history.

[“Star Trek”] will be episodic, week by week. It won’t be the Netflix [way].

CBS All Access is the only place to get the entire ‘stack’ of CBS shows, and this January, we will begin streaming our first original series. All Access will be the home of the first original “Star Trek” series in eleven years.

[The premiere episode of] “Star Trek” will debut simultaneously on All Access and the CBS television network, with subsequent episodes exclusively on All Access.

We have one of the best creative teams behind this show, and we’re confident that its large, passionate fan base will lead to substantial, profitable subscriber growth.


Once again, every other streaming service was after “Star Trek.” We could have cashed in for a lot of money, selling it to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu… they were all very interested in it.

We know that “Star Trek” is a high-priced, quality product, and – knowing that we will have very strong international sales which we are already getting in – it’s important that we show everybody that All Access is a priority for us… and there are a lot of very rabid “Star Trek” fans who are going sign up for it.

FULLER: We’ve got the arc of the first season entirely written, or arced out, and we’ve got the first six episodes entirely broken.

COLLIDER: I’m assuming this is going to be one story over thirteen episodes.

FULLER: Yes. We start [shooting] in September [through] probably March. I think our runtime is flexible because it’s streaming, [but] they gave us parameters – sort of, “No more than this, no less than that.”

Though the series will be premiering in the US on CBS All Access, Netflix and CBS Studios International today announced a landmark international licensing agreement for the new Star Trek television series. Netflix will be the exclusive premiere home of Star Trek in 188 countries (excluding the US and Canada). Each episode of the new series will be available globally within 24 hours of its U.S. premiere

Die Serie ist tot, bevor sie startet, wenn sich das bewahrheitet. Ich hoffe, es handelt es sich um einen Fake, die schäbigen VFX sprechen immerhin dafür. Da sieht ja jeder Fanfilm besser aus. WTF!

Kein Grund, gleich hysterisch zu werden, viel ist ja nun nicht zu sehen. Über den Plastiklook geht man aber hoffentlich nochmal drüber. Mutig bis wahnwitzig, mit sowas zu "teasern".

Über die VFX mache ich mir weniger Sorgen als über das Schiffdesign, denn dabei wird man sich ja trotz der Eile etwas gedacht haben.

Das erklärt aber nicht, was daran so empörend sein soll. In der technischen Entwicklung lässt man sich natürlich häufig von der "Konkurrenz" inspirieren.

C'mon... Die Voyager war keine Schönheit, die NX-01 auch nicht. Wenn die Stories und die Figuren gut sind kann das Schiff für mich aussehen wie Jogi Löws Deo-Roller.
