Stargate Atlantis geht, Stargate Universe kommt...

Das Ganze geistert nun schon seit einigen Tagen durchs Netz, nun scheint es endgültig zu sein. Stargate Atlantis wird nach der 5. Staffel eingestellt, bekommt aber noch 2 TV Filme spendiert. Stargate Universe soll dunkler und dramatischer werden und sich laut Aussagen der Produzenten dabei an BSG orientieren.

Breakdown-- Colonel Everett Young: 40's handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he's temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY. SERIES REGULAR;

Tamara Jon: 20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn't afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do. SERIES REGULAR;

Chloe Carpenter: 20ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father's footsteps but for now she's a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father's tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character. SERIES REGULAR;

Eli Hitchcock: 20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon's character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in. SERIES REGULAR;

Lt. Jared Nash: 20-25. Junior SGC team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl's fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he's ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation. SERIES REGULAR;

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak: 20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don't want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His past is a mystery but it's clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he'd kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana's character "Hoot" in Blackhawk Down. SERIES REGULAR.

Robert Carlyle has been tapped as the lead in Sci Fi Channel's new series "Stargate Universe."
"SGU," the third installment in the cable channel's "Stargate" franchise, hails from "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate Atlantis" co-creators Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, who will write and executive produce the new series.
Sci Fi Channel is expected to give the MGM TV-produced "SGU" a 20-episode order.
Production on the series is slated to begin in February in Vancouver. It is targeted to launch in the summer with a two-hour premiere.
Described as edgier, darker and younger-skewing than its predecessors, "SGU" follows a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians left to fend for themselves when forced through a Stargate after their hidden base comes under attack. The survivors, who emerge aboard an ancient ship missing in the far reaches of space, are led by Dr. David Rush (Carlyle), who works to unlock the ship's mysteries and return the group home but also might have ulterior motives.
The network had said it was looking to cast a well-known actor as Rush and fresh faces to play the rest of the ship's crew.
"Robert Carlyle brings a depth, intelligence and complexity to his roles, which will fit perfectly with the fresh, new reinvention of this franchise," Sci Fi original-programming chief Mark Stern said.
Scotland-born Carlyle, best known for his roles in "Trainspotting" and "The Full Monty," recently starred opposite Kiefer Sutherland in Fox's "24: Redemption." He is repped by Gersh, manager Jon Rubinstein and the U.K.'s Christian Hodell.

SCI FI Channel has announced Justin Louis, David Blue, Brian J. Smith and Jamil Walker Smith will join the cast of the highly anticipated new original series "Stargate Universe." The four will enlist alongside Robert Carlyle (Dr. Nicholas Rush) in the latest adventure in the "Stargate" franchise produced by MGM television. Production will begin in Vancouver in February 2009 with an eye toward a fall '09 premiere.
Edgier and younger in tone than the two previous series, "SGU" follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth.
Justin Louis ("Hidden Hills," "The Fighting Fitzgeralds") will portray Colonel Everett Young, an experienced Stargate team leader. Married, with years of tough decisions under his belt, life has taught him never to take anything for granted. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive.
David Blue ("Ugly Betty," "Moonlight") stars as Eli Wallace, a total slacker, who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to - mathematics, computers, video games. A lack of confidence has left him with an acerbic sense of humor.
Brian J. Smith (The War Boys, Hate Crime) is Lt. Matthew Scott, a junior member of the Stargate team. Green and rough around the edges, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he's ready for the responsibility and must learn to command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities aboard the ship.
Jamil Walker Smith ("Waynehead," "Sister, Sister") will portray Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer, a Marine with a temper you don't want to mess with. His past is mysterious but it's clear something dark formed the hard shell around him.
Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, of "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate Atlantis," will serve as executive producers and writers on the new series.
"Stargate Universe" will debut as a two-hour movie event on SCI FI and will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.

Levesque ("Smallville") will play Chloe Armstrong, the daughter and aide of a U.S. senator. She is repped by Kirk Talent Agencies. Huffman ("Smallville") will play MSgt. Tamara Johansen, a field medic assigned to treat the seriously wounded. She is repped by the Paul Kohner Agency and New Wave.
"SGU" is slated to launch in October with a two-part opening episode directed by Andy Mikita.

Vielleicht muss man erst warten bis 3 oder 4 Staffeln durch sind damits interessant wird.

IHMO war das bisher bei allen (allen die mir einfallen) Sci-Fi Serien so:
ST:TNG und ST:VOY kamen erst nach ein paar Staffeln so richtig raus, Enterprise ebenso. Schaut man sich die erste Staffel einer beliebigen dieser Serien an, dann muss man sich schon sehr wundern (um nicht zu sagen: fremdschämen).
In DS9 bin ich nie richtig reingekommen, aber auch da kommts mir so vor.

Bei Stargate ist es nicht viel anders. Gerade die paar jüngsten Staffeln SG1 rocken ziemlich, trotz teils neuer Besetzung.

Ein Schande also, wenn man Serien nach der 4 Staffel oder so einstellt - gerade wenns interessant wird. Hat mich bei Enterprise tierisch genervt (3. Staffel war um Größenordnungen geiler als 1. und 2.), und bei SG:Atlantis, fürchte ich, wird die Serie auch nie ihr volles Potential entfalten können, wenn sie nach Staffel 5 eingestellt wird. :(

PS: Wann kommt eigentlich endlich wieder Dr. Who? Immerhin soll ja demnächst Torchwood losgehn, mal sehn was das gibt...

Naja, ich sag nicht dass die erste Enterprise-Staffel brutal schlecht ist... aber richtig interessant wurde es nunmal erst in der dritten.

28 Weeks Later meets Stargate Aber ein paar nette bekannte Gesichter sind zu sehen, wobei ich der Serie immernoch sehr skeptisch gegenüber stehe, vorallem dieser leicht ironische Touch von Atlantis war einfach klasse.

Vom Star Trek-Universum kann ich mal folgendes berichten:

- Star Trek TOS war von Anfang an gut und erst die letzte Season kann man als teilweise sehr schwach bezeichnen (siehe z.B. "Spocks Gehirn")
- Star Trek TNG - erste Season hatte einige sehr peinliche Folgen. Season 2 war besser, litt jedoch unter dem Autorenstreik. TNG startete erst mit Season 3 richtig durch.
- Star Trek DS9 - erste Season kann man als durchschnittlich bezeichnen. Habs heute mit nem Kollegen besprochen. Nur eine wirklich herausragende Folge ("Duet") machte ich in dieser Season aus. Season 2 war schon besser - und gegen Ende (ab "Der Maquis") und speziell mit der Season 2 Schlussepisode ("Der Plan des Dominion") hatte man ein richtig gutes Niveau erreicht. Aber erst mit Season 3, nach Geschmack evtl. erst Season 4 gings erst so richtig los.
- Star Trek VOY - Eieiei, ich fand die erste Season noch ganz ordentlich, jedoch die Seasons 2 und 3 waren schon seeehr durchschnittlich. Mit Season 4 kam die Serie meines Erachtens in Schwung.
- Star Trek ENT - Erste Season gefällt mir sehr gut. Season 2 nicht, Seasons 3 und 4 fand ich top.

andere Serien:

- Battlestar Galactica (neu) gefällt mir schon ab der ersten regulären Folge sehr gut.
- Futurama rockte von Anfang bis Ende total :D:D

Hab von SG-1 auch nicht alles gesehen und Stargate Atlantis dennoch verstanden, also denke ich, dass ich auch ohne große Vorkenntnis von SG-1 an SGU rangehen kann.

ja sicherlich, allerdings möchte ich diese Serie schon lange mal schauen. Und wennschon, beginne ich dann auch von vorne ;)

Eigentlich reichen die "Crossover Staffeln" von SG1 um mit SGA warm zu werden, man muss auch nicht DS9 geguckt haben um Voyager zu verstehen. Bei SGU fehlen mir irgendwie die Id. Figuren. Die Colonels/Majors bei den beiden anderen Serien hatten deutlich mehr Drive und Charisma

Irgendwann werd ich mir SG-1 auch nochmal komplett geben, aber 10 Staffeln sind schon ne Ansage. Weil wenn ich mit ner Serie anfange, dann schau ich die meißt recht schnell hintereinander weg, sofern sie denn komplett erschienen ist.

Also ich sag mal der Preis für die Komplettbox ist eigentlich noch recht human, zumindest in UK. Na mal abwarten kommt Zeit kommt Sg-1

Hätte auch nicht gedacht, dass ich mir irgendwann mal die Komplettbox von Babylon 5 holen werde und nun hab ich sie für 75€ mit allen Staffel und allen Filmen und bin ganz happy damit.
