Quelle: bloody-disgusting.comI've been sitting on this news for a few days now as I can't seem to figure out what's new at this point. So I figured I'd just throw it out there and see how it goes. Why not, right? Anyways, I have straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt that Ivan Reitman, director of Ghost Busters and Ghostbusters II, is in fact attached to get behind the camera for Ghostbusters 3. While he's attached, the word is that he hasn't decided whether or not he really wants to direct, yet. So, yeah, is that news? But here's a little something else we conjured up. Apparently, the sequel takes place when the paranormal researchers "reopen" their ghost removal service after it has been closed for quite a few years. As previously reported, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed their involvement (in various interviews on the web).

The obvious is being reported via Market Saw who writes that Columbia Pictures is moving forward with Ghostbusters 3 in 3D, news that isn't all that surprising considering the upward trend. "Yes - I have word from one of my top sources that a friend of his at a certain well known effects house (I can't say who it is, but their initials are ILM) said that GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is proceeding as planned - but - with the added benefit of stereoscopic 3D!" Can you imagine ghosts floating around the theater in 3-D? Awesome! (Bloody Disgusting)

Dan Aykroyd Confirms Bill Murray Won't Do Ghostbusters 3
Source: The Telegraph, February 29, 2012
Dan Aykroyd talked about this vaguely earlier this month, but he has now confirmed to The Telegraph that Bill Murray won't be a part of Ghostbusters 3, if the film gets made at Sony Pictures.
"I honestly don't know. At this point it's in suspended animation," he said when asked about the film's status. "The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun [but] I can't be mad at him. He’s a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn’t want to know."
Aykroyd previously said that one possibility would be to recast Murray's role, but he adds that they are "not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I'm the cheerleader, but I'm only one voice in the matter. It's a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio."

Thanks to Shock Till You Drop for transcribing the juicy bits.
"It's based on new research that's being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University," he tells King. "Basically, there's research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width and time, become threatened by some of the research that's being done. Ghostbusters -- new Ghostbusters -- have to come and solve the problem."
As for Bill Murray's involvement...
"There will be a hole for him. If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place."
Aykroyd also confirmed the return of one new actor from the original: Larry King will again play himself.
"Of course, we're going to be doing you in your new format as you comment on what's happening in Manhattan up there at Morningside Heights. It's going to be quite a spectacular scene once the stuff starts to break."
