Tomas Alfredson, who helmed the Swedish art house vampire story "Let the Right One In," has come aboard to direct "Larklight," a Di Novi Pictures period fantasy for Warner Bros.
The adaptation of a 2006 book by Philip Reeve is set in a Victorian-era alternate universe in which mankind has been exploring the solar system since the time of Isaac Newton and revolves around a brother and sister who team with a band of renegade space pirates to save the world from destruction at the hands of a madman. Steve Knight ("Eastern Promises") is rewriting the script to the project, to which Shekhar Kapur was previously attached as director.
Di Novi Pictures’ Denise Di Novi is producing, and Alison Greenspan is exec producing. The company is in preproduction on Zac Efron starrer "The Lucky One," Warners’ upcoming adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel.
Courtenay Valenti and Matthew Milam are overseeing for the studio
