Tim Blake Nelson Joins The Fantastic Four

Tim Blake Nelson has joined the cast of Josh Trank's upcoming Marvel Comics adaptation The Fantastic Four. The Hollywood Reporter says that he'll be playing Harvey Elder opposite Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Michael B. Jordan and Toby Kebbell.

Comic book fans will recall Elder's name as being the alternate identity of the subterranean ruler known as the Mole Man. In comic book lore, Elder was a scientist who, after being lost on an expedition to Monster Island, wound up discovering the world of Subterranea. Because he was mocked by the surface world for his theories regarding the underground kingdom, Elder decided to stay and became the world's ruler. Although the Mole Man was the villain of the very first "Fantastic Four" comic, the trade notes that Elder is slated to appear as a scientist only, potentially setting the Mole Man up for future sequels.

"Marvel" ist irgendwie echt ein Saftladen. Alles soll möglich kantenlos sein - siehe "Ant Man" - und dieses ganze "Avengers"-Konstrukt geht mir inzwischen ebenfalls mächtig auf den Puffer (absoluter Tiefpunkt: die aufgesetzte Captain America Szene im ansonsten auch recht mauen "Thor 2"). Die fühlen sich einfach zu sicher auf ihrem hohen Ross. Ich hoffe, dass sie bald mal einen richtigen Flop erleben - aber bitte nicht "Guardians of the Galaxy", denn bei dem Streifen ist man zumindest mal ein gewisses Risiko eingegangen...

I've never been a fan of comics, I've never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn't necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn't do it because the plot won't be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it's very exciting to be part of a movie like this.

There have been lots of rumors about the villainous Doctor Doom in the upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot. There were talks that Doctor Doom will use Doombots and that he's actually be female.

It was eventually revealed that the character will be played by Toby Kebbell, which means that he'll be male. But according to Kebbell, there is definitely something different about Doom, and it has to do with his origins.

"There's a mild change and I'll tell you because of our history," the actor told Collider. "He's Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I'm sure I'll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours... I'm a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I'm 'Doom.'"

Großer Trubel um den Film: Erst hieß es, der Film sei "a mess" und sehe eher aus wie "Chronicle 2" denn wie ein FF-Film, weshalb man umfassend nachdrehen werden; inzwischen ist man zurückgerudert und es wurde gesagt, dass wohl nur 3 bis 4 Tage Re-Shoots zwecks Feintuning gemacht würden.
Der erste Trailer wird vor "Kingsman: The Secret Service" laufen.

Wäre zumindest ne coole Sache.
Solange er nicht aussieht wie die bisherigen FF-Filme...

Wie man hörte, hat sich wohl nicht nur der Regisseur als ziemliche FF Niete geoutet. Bei irgendeinem Interview soll er wohl nicht einmal die Figuren richtig zugeordnet haben, obwohl er bereits daran arbeitete.

Das kann nur ein Reinfall werden.

Collider got an exclusive interview with director Josh Trank and producer/screenwriter Simon Kinberg where they opened up about the film, answered some important questions, and put a lot of rumors to rest. During the interview, Trank and Kinberg revealed few great bits of information about the project, there are no spoilers and no specific plot points - a refreshing change if you ask me.

Here are a the highlights:

- Trank says they "consciously decided to not release anything official" until now.
- In terms of story, Trank said, "This is a modern telling of how these four iconic characters came together and came to be."
- The film is heavily influenced by David Cronenberg, SCANNERS, and THE FLY as they were big influences on the look of the film.
- The film is an origin story and there are influences of what Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were doing in the 60’s all the way up into the present day.
- Renowned composer and three-time Best Original Score Oscar nominee Philip Glass (KUNDUN, THE HOURS, and NOTES ON A SCANDAL) is scoring the movie with Marco Beltrami.
- The film recently did a few days of additional photography and it was to film some bits and pieces. The original shoot was seventy-two days and they were on-schedule and on-budget.
- Trank’s first cut of the film was around 2 hours and 10 minutes. He said the final film will probably be between 2 hours and 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Die Laufzeit hat schon einmal Potential für tiefergehende Charakterzeichnungen.

Bin sehr auf den Trailer gespannt. Es scheint ja alles darauf hinzudeuten, dass er sich schon (vom Look her und so) von den ganzen üblichen "Marvel"-Dingern abhebt und sich von der Dumm-Dumm-Kinderkram-Schiene der letzten zwei "FF"-Filme fernhält. Und da "Chonicle 2" eh schon zu lange auf sich warten lässt, kann er gern wie "Chronicle 2" daherkommen...
