In the film the kids will, of course, be in CGI, so you have to get a little creative when picturing them in the final product. Not all the kids belong to Jake and Neytiri, as the photo also includes children from an underwater tribe called the Metkayina. The only one who will not be CG is the young Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teen who is “born at the Hell’s Gate military complex, a crucial location in the first film.” Producer Jon Landau spoke to having the youthful element in the new films, and how important these young characters will be in all the movies (via EW):

“We never had this youthful element before, and that brings a different kind of energy to the film. They represent the future generation of Pandora and play a very significant role — not just in this movie but throughout all the movies.”

Finally, director James Cameron has also confirmed (via The Hollywood Reporter) shooting plans for the four films, which will have a combined budget reportedly in excess of $1 billion dollars, or between $250 and $300 million per film assuming Cameron doesn’t go wildly over budget… as he famously has on nearly every film he’s ever made. To compare, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy ran up a bill in the neighborhood of $745 million, which is in the same ballpark the Avatar sequels are projected for.

“‘Avatar 2’ and ‘3’ will be captured together and then [go through postproduction] sequentially,” Cameron confirmed. “Then we go back and capture ‘4’ and ‘5.’ They’re all written and they’re all designed, so we literally hit the ground running the day after ‘Avatar 3’ comes out, starting capture on ‘4’ and ‘5’ and then post on those and release those. That’s the plan. So, it’s kind of a two-and-two structure.”

That lines up with 20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment‘s announced release dates for the four Avatar sequels. Avatar 2 will be coming to theaters on December 18, 2020, and will be followed by the third film on December 17, 2021. Then there will be a three-year break in releases, as the fourth film opens on December 20, 2024, and the fifth Avatar movie is scheduled for a December 19, 2025 release.

In a recent interview with Empire, director and visionary James Cameron has revealed that MCU star Chris Evans and 21 Jump Street actor Channing Tatum were the two actors up against Sam Worthington for the lead role of Jake Sully in the original Avatar.

“Chris Evans, and Sam, and Channing Tatum. That was my choice,” Cameron said. “I really liked Channing’s appeal. I liked Chris’ appeal. They were both great guys. But Sam had a quality of voice and a quality of intensity. Everybody did about the same on all the material through the script, except for the final speech where he stands up and says, ‘This is our land, ride now, go as fast as the wind can carry you.’ That whole thing. I would have followed him into battle. And I wouldn’t have followed the other guys. They’ve since gone onto fantastic careers and all that, but Sam was ready. He was ready.”

Cameron wird bei Avatar kein HFR nutzen (sehr gut). In einem Interview mit collider sagte er, dass HFR für ihn kein Format sei, sondern nur ein Werkzeug, um 3D Probleme zu beheben.
