THE ALBUM
THE MOVIEInsurgentes is the first Steven Wilson solo album, recorded all over the world between January-August, and due for release in November as a special deluxe multi disc mail order version. The special multi disk edition will be available as a 2 CD/1 DVDA version (limited to 3,000 copies), and a 4 x 10 inch vinyl version (limited to 1,000 copies), both with hardback book. Both editions will only be available to order from this website. A standard retail CD version will be issued early in 2009.
CD1 features the album itself, while the second CD includes songs recorded during the sessions but not included on the main album. The 4 x 10 inch vinyl version includes all the songs from both CDs in the digital edition. The DVDA contains a 5.1 surround sound mix of the album, high resolution 24 bit stereo, 18 minutes from the work in progress Lasse Hoile film "Insurgentes", and other video material.
The hardback book contains a breathtaking set of photographs captured by Lasse Hoile and Susana Moyaho during SW's travels around the world making the album and shooting on location for the documentary. All designed by Carl Glover, printed on super high quality paper and bound in a hard cloth cover with embossed text. The ultimate collector's piece. The album will not be made available again in this deluxe form.
The album itself is one of the most creative, emotive and diverse works of SW's career, including everything from sublime ballads, gorgeous shoegazer anthems, to all out industrial noise assaults, enhanced by several guest appearances by both long term and new collaborators. The title of the album comes from Avenida de los Insurgentes, the longest avenue in Mexico City, where some of the album was recorded.

HomepageThe documentary film "Insurgentes" is a musical road movie that follows the making of Steven Wilson's solo record of the same name, and is a portrait of an increasingly rare artist who works with music and media out of love and not for fame and fortune, persisting in making art on his own terms in a world where "throw away" mentality is increasingly becoming the norm.
Insurgentes is also about music and the album as art form, and applying the same aesthetic vision through the writing, performance, production, artwork, lyrics, videos and beyond. The film looks into the issues of creating, packaging and marketing music in an era when iPods, Mp3's and download culture are changing and eroding perceptions of exactly what an album is supposed to sound and look like.
"My fear is that the current generation of kids who're being born into this information revolution, growing up with the Internet, cell phones, iPods, this download culture, 'American Idol,' reality TV, prescription drugs, PlayStations — all of these things kind of distract people from what's important about life, which is to develop a sense of curiosity about what's out there.” (Steven Wilson, MTV News)
It's this curiosity that takes the artist around the world to find inspiration to create and record his music.
Through travels to different cultures and continents we meet with other personalities in the industry and hear different opinions on the current and future state of music.
Insurgentes also follows Steven back to his roots and upbringing and what led to him becoming a musician, from humble beginnings in the suburbs of London to touring the world as a successful artist, working with many other established artists, and creating a lasting legacy of recorded work.
The film is still in production but is scheduled for completion in Spring 2009 for screening at film festivals next Summer. An 18 minute extract appears on the DVD in the special edition version of the album "Insurgentes" (see online ordering page).

Geil, Soloalbum!
