Wrath of the Titans (2012)

Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are moving ahead with a sequel to Clash of the Titans, which the studio would like as early as spring, 2012. But they will make the journey without Louis Leterrier, who will not return for an encore as director. Sam Worthington will return, as well as most every other character that survived. Greg Berlanti will write the story and the studio is already canvassing the agencies for a writer and director who can whip the movie into shape to shoot before Worthington makes Avatar 2.

Leterrier will remain peripherally involved as executive producer. It isn't unheard of for the original director of a big hit film to drop off the sequel--Doug Liman on The Bourne Identity comes to mind--and insiders swear that the Leterrier move was harmonious and are saying he wasn't of a mind to rush into another installment of Greek mythological mayhem.

Worthington spoke about his upcoming film work, including a sequel to Clash of the Titans that he says will begin shooting early next year:
"[It} will be 3D this time," said Worthington, making it clear that he himself wasn't happy with the post-conversion process of the first film, "Shot in 3D. Do put that in and make them f--king aware... When I read Clash 2, they came to me the other day. I said, 'I kinda dig where it's going, but can we make the character more of this? Can we make it more of that? Can I get to play a lot more and get involved and have a lot more f--king fun than just being a young man who has to stand there and look pretty?' I'm sick of doing that, so it's kind of a case of, 'How do we make Perseus a lot more fun?' So we're sort of shaping it down that track. And Warner Bros. has been nice enough to give us a bit on input."
Worthington also touched upon the changes that Clash of the Titans went through between the script and the screen.
"The movies always change. It suddenly became a rolling, runaway train in some parts. In regards to the conversion, I'm a Jim Cameron boy, so people know my opinions."

"'Clash of the Titans 2' will go February 1st in the UK. Jonathan Liebesman, who just did this movie 'Battle: Los Angeles', is directing it. We're on early prep on that. It's a huge movie and we want to do a much better job on it," he told us. "Listen, we're prideful people and we want to win and the 3D really helped us in a lot of ways, but we also took a lot of heat for it. I think for my own career and my own sense of purpose, I want this movie to rock... and it will."
One of the questions many people will have is who may be returning, since they introduced a fairly large band of men around Sam Worthington's Perseus, who (spoilers!) were mostly killed off. He confirmed the return of Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson as Hades and Zeus respectively and that there were three key new roles. "Some of the Gods are (back)," he confirmed. "Sam's back, Gemma Arterton, Ralph and Liam's back, but we have a whole new group of people. I think we learned a lot from the tone of the first one, whether or not it got too serious or got too jokey, and it's a really cool group of guys and three new big roles that I think will be movie stars, and we have high expectations for it, we really really do. The design work looks great and it's going to be a whole different set of muscles to be flexed than 'The Town.'"
We also wondered whether they would be able to top the movie in terms of some of the crazy locations they filmed in order to create a mythological world. "That's something that we're very proud of, and at this point, we're thinking right now, 'Where do we go that's just as insane and crazy and cool?' Not for a month but even for a week to capture like we did in Ethiopia on the first one, but yeah, it's going to be a big and sprawling, the same kind of vibe".

TheWrap reports that Carlos star Edgar Ramirez is in negotiations to play Ares in Clash of the Titans 2, while The Sorcerer's Apprentice co-star Toby Kebbell has been offered the role of Agenor.
The site adds that Bill Nighy is being courted to play Hephaestus, while Captain America star Hayley Atwell is on the short list for the role of Andromeda. Other actresses being considered for the role are Georgina Haig, Janet Montgomery, Dominique McElligott and Clemence Poesy.

Machte ich beim ersten Trailer zum Vorgänger schon den bösen Fehler, eine enorme Erwartung in den Film zu stecken … passiert mir das gerade wieder. Ich hoffe das, im Gegensatz zu mir, die Macher der Fortsetzung etwas dazugelernt haben.
